Dissident Powers Phase 2 [01/09/14]
Happy belated New Year! We have been working hard at Dissident Powers to make it a great experience for everyone. We had a small, closed beta test like the previous post stated, and it went great! The reaction was very supportive towards continuing development in the direction we were headed. So it seemed like my prior post suggested that the game would be completed very soon. Well, that was the case, but there was something that had been bugging me last month. I could not figure out how the game would be replayable with such a limited amount of content. I know that the two zones had a lot of stuff to do, but the zones did not feel like an actual game. They felt like a minigame that was incomplete.
I decided that we would go ahead with making what is known in most MMO's as the overworld. Previously, zones were the only things to access. Now we're working on a giant-ish map with a whole load of different difficulties, faction-controlled areas, and more! This has definitely slowed development, but it has given me a much needed relief. Using the overworld in combination with zones, I can create an ever-growing amount of content that won't be limited by size restrictions.
There hasn't been a picture in a while, so here is a picture of the Abyssal overworld city Laude, which is a work-in-progress (credit to Merl for much of the city's design).
Blogger is hurting my brain right now so just click this to see the image.
